Call for abstracts or papers

Open and innovative education has been rapidly developing and increasingly practised, in all higher education institutions (both conventional and online universities/colleges). Education is becoming, and should keep being innovative in various aspects, such as delivery modes, curricula, and learner engagement. The International Conference on Open and Innovative Education (ICOIE) serves as an international platform for academic exchanges and sharing of quality research in relevant areas.

Papers on the following topics areas are welcome:

    1.  Academic/Learning analytics;
    2.  Artificial intelligence in education;
    3.  Engaging students and learning design;
    4.  Impacts of pandemic on online learning;
    5.  Innovations in curriculum development;
    6.  Innovations in educational technology;
    7.  Mobile and ubiquitous learning;
    8.  Open education;
    9.  Open educational resources and MOOCs;
    10.  Pedagogical innovations;
    11.  Social media and technology-mediated learning communities;
    12.  STEAM education;
    13.  Technology-enabled student advising;
    14.  Virtual reality/augmented reality in education; and
    15.  Other topics relevant to the conference.

Papers on all topics related to open or innovative education are welcome. Papers on related topics will also be considered

Conference Publications

Accepted full papers will be included in the conference proceedings (with an ISBN). Selected papers will be recommended for consideration to an edited book. Also, special issues of the following journals will be devoted to selected papers of the Conference. The journals include Interactive Technology and Smart Education (ESCI and Scopus listed), International Journal of Mobile Learning and Organisation (Scopus listed), and “Innovation and Technology in Education” Section of SN Computer Science.

NB: Submission of full papers is optional. Those who have their abstracts accepted may give oral presentations of their papers at the Conference. If you submit a full paper, it will be included in the proceedings (with an ISBN), if it is accepted. It will be considered for the Best Paper Award and Excellent Paper Award; or Best Student Paper Award and Excellent Student Paper Award. From the Conference, selected full papers will also be recommended to international journals or an edited book for publication

Submission Guidelines

Quality is the most important requirement. All papers to be presented should concrete contribution to fields relevant to open and/or innovative education.

For abstract submission, please follow the abstract guidelines.
For full paper submission*, please follow the guidelines for full papers.
*For inclusion in the electronic proceedings.

Papers submitted for presentation should normally be in correct English. Oral presentation must be done in easily comprehensible and fluent English. Papers must be presented by authors themselves. No one will be allowed to present any paper on behalf of its author.

Papers may also be written in Chinese and presented in Putonghua. In such a case, an English version of the abstract should be submitted together with the Chinese version.

All submissions will be reviewed for relevance, originality, clarity, soundness, and significance by at least two reviewers.

Each abstract accepted for oral presentation will be allocated a timeslot for paper presentation if at least one of the authors completes the registration. (Each paper presentation requires at least one registration at the early-bird or regular rate.)

Abstracts/papers must be submitted through the online system (i.e. Easychair system) below, by following the instructions in the page of “New Submission”.

Submission to Student Presentation Session​

Student authors are welcome to submit abstracts/papers to the Conference and present their work in the student presentation session(s) during the Conference. The author of the abstracts/papers must meet the following eligibility criteria.

    • The author must be a student pursuing a full-time graduate programme at a recognized academic institution.
    • The author must present the paper at the assigned paper session of ICOIE 2021.

Student abstracts/papers must be submitted through the online system (i.e. Easychair system) below, by following the instructions in the page of “New Submission” and selecting “Student Presentation Session” in the system.
